Guest Blog: An Inspirational Direct Seller Shares Her Story

My name is Sarah MacIsaac and I am a Tastefully Simple Independent Consultant. I want to first say how appreciative I am for the opportunity to write a blog post for Julie Anne Jones. I am writing this article if nothing else to help motivate my fellow direct sellers. One of the amazing things about this industry is that motivation is everywhere you look. I cannot think of another career choice where you would get such amazing free training and support. Whether it is monthly team meetings, opportunities from HQ, the support of your direct upline and your sponsor, or all the resources within the direct sales arena on Facebook, blogs and websites.

This blog post is about me because I want to share my story in the hopes that you'll see that anything is possible if you have the belief and drive to move in the direction of your dreams.

I have congenital fiber disproportion type, a form of Muscular Dystrophy, and have been using a wheelchair to get around since about 9 years old. I was born, raised, and still live to this day in Lynn, Massachusetts, a city just north of Boston. I have an incredibly supportive family. Growing up I was one of the only kids in a wheelchair that I knew except for the children I met at summer camp and in high school. Early on in life, I realized something… I could do anything I wanted but I would have to learn to figure out my own way to do it. You can do more than you think but sometimes you have to think differently, to change your perspective.

My parents were awesome, always telling me I could do and be whatever I wanted to be. Of course, sometimes that is easier to hear than actually believe. I had some health issues that slowed me down at times but I must say I have accomplished quite a bit. I graduated from high school, then college, and I have my own apartment. The one goal I had never accomplished was holding down my own job, having a career, earning my own income. I am an active and productive person by nature and I have “worked” (I've had more volunteer jobs then I can count), but a career, something I could truly call my own, that was my dream. This is where Tastefully Simple comes in.

Tastefully Simple sort of fell in my lap but I am so glad it did. I have a love of food. I knew I wanted to work from home and to have the flexibility to work the hours and in the way I choose to. I also enjoy having the ability to work with people. I am a social person. I have certainly found those things with this opportunity.

However, I have to say, what I've gotten from Tastefully Simple is so much more. This business has filled a void I did not know needed to be filled. I have met so many unbelievable people through this process.

I have now been with Tastefully Simple for almost 2 years and my business is going strong. I love introducing our products to anyone I can. I try to use my strengths, to adapt, to do in this business what works for me, such as writing, computer and social media skills, and fostering client loyalty through reorders. Follow up and expressing gratitude and appreciation have proved to be essential to my success. I have improved these skills and try to stay up on the latest and most convenient ways for me to get my name out there and market my business.

I am a lifelong learner who never feels like she has mastered anything completely and I am always open to finding out a new way to do something, especially when I see the positive results from that choice. I try not to limit my thinking and to be willing to change my approach in an area of business if need be. I do a predominantly online business but try to touch all aspects of the business. I mainly do catalog and facebook/online parties. The beauty of this business is I can work around doctor’s appointments, health setbacks and “bad” days, and other commitments such as family and volunteer opportunities.

Here's the reason I wanted to share my story. I have learned that if I want to be successful (and I do), I have to continually touch my business. It's not always easy, but it's important to me and so every day I find a way to do something to propel my business forward. And if I can do it, so can you.

I will end with one of my absolute favorite quotes by Mr. Thomas Edison… “If we all did the things we are capable of doing we would literally astound ourselves.”
