Last year I wrote a post about a brand new app for smart phones called myConsultant that had been developed by Kevin McKinley, the husband of a Thirty-One Gifts consultant. I got a ton of feedback about the post, and recently Kevin contacted me about the updated (and even cooler) app. I interviewed him for my radio show in March and a lot has changed for Kevin.
He quit the job he had when he started his myConsultant journey and has been hired as a full time app developer. He has also made some really great upgrades to the myConsultant app, so I thought I’d give you an update on what exactly it is and why you need it if you do parties for a living.
With its beautiful interface and sleek design, myConsultant is truly an app created with you (the direct seller) in mind. It’s available for Android and iPhone. myConsultant has so many features, you’ll wonder how you managed to live without it once you have them.
Here’s a rundown of what you get in this amazingly affordable app:
MyCalc – you’ll go here when it’s time for your customers to check-out. You can input the tax rate, shipping rate and even choose whether shipping is taxed or not in your state. When you’re ready to add up the products on your client’s order, you’ll find an itemized calculator that gives you the option to add a discount to either individual products or the entire order. The itemized calculator also allows you to apply the discount before or after tax & shipping. This means no more confusing notes and trying to calculate monthly specials and taxes on your own. It’s one of the best features of the app, in my opinion.
Sales tax look-up service – This is a subscription based service where you can select your location based on GPS or type it in manually to find out what the correct sales rate is where your party is being held. This is an invaluable resource when you are in the middle of a party and need the tax information on the spot, especially since, in some areas, sales tax rates can change from block to block.
Vehicle mileage – With tax time upon us, you’ll love this feature. It provides an easy way to keep track of all those miles you are driving for your business. You can even email a detailed list to yourself at the end of the year in an excel format and just hand it to your tax professional.
Background themes – To add a little fun and personalization, there are a number of different backgrounds to choose from. From pink tribal to winter owls, you can customize myConsultant to your preference.

For years, every Sunday evening, I’ve been making what I call a Master Manifestation list. It’s a list that allows me to pencil out what my quarterly projects are, what my current goals for the week are, and what I’ll do each of the following 5 work days (specific action steps) to move toward those goals. This one concept has completely changed the way I work and has increased my productivity beyond anything I ever dreamed possible. I get more done in the same amount of time I had before with much less stress. All because I step into each week with a clear sense of purpose.
I think it boils down to three fairly simple things for me. Mindset, motivation, and manifestation. Let me clarify.
Mindset – Every Monday, because I’ve taken the time on Sunday night to fill out my Master Manifestation List, I’m stepping into my week with a clear mindset. I’ve reminded myself of my purpose and my values (which are printed at the top of the template for my list). I’ve defined for myself the “theme” of my week (right down to changing the photo on my list to match that theme). So my mindset it clear. Without that, I drift through my week without a purpose.
Motivation – This is the second part of my planning for the week. It’s tied to my projects and goals. Every quarter when I do my quarterly planning, I define my five areas of focus. Those areas are written down on my list, and my weekly goals come from those areas. Renewing my commitment to what I’ve chosen to focus on every single week fuels my motivation to move into action.
Manifestation – This is where the rubber meets the road for me. It’s all of the things I do in order to make my goals a reality. I always say that action is the key to success. By writing down daily action steps for meeting my weekly goals on my Master Manifestation List, I nail down my commitment. That way, when something else “pops up” on Tuesday that’s not on my list, it’s much easier for me to say no to it, add it to my list of things to accomplish next week or next month, and continue to focus on the plan I’ve made to manifest the goals I’ve set for the week.
Really, who would have thought that something as simple as a modified, much improved “to do” list could make such a difference? It literally takes me less than 10 minutes each Sunday to complete it. That sort of blows me away!
