There’s an old joke that goes something like this: “I had bacon and eggs for breakfast this morning. That chicken was interested but the pig was committed.”
I love what I do. I love supporting other people and I get jazzed when one of my ideas finds it’s way out into the world and starts to make a difference. The day I became an entrepreneur, I realized that this was what I was born to do. My personality is perfectly suited to every aspect of my job.
- I’m a connector (it’s my number one value), and I get to connect for a living. Love that.
- I have a degree in theatre, so speaking in front of people feels more like play than work to me and I’m more at home on a stage than anywhere else in the world.
- I’ve loved to write since I was a little girl, so all of the writing I do for my business also comes easily and feels fulfilling.
- I have a “natural aptitude” for the computer, so I can learn the applications and programs I need for my job fairly quickly.
- I’m a ridiculously hard worker (I’ve been called a workaholic and I’m writing this on a Sunday morning…but don’t tell anyone).
I’ll also honestly tell you that being a self employed business owner can be challenging. There’s not “steady” income per se and it can feel a little risky at times. There have been so many times over the past 13 years when it would have been much easier for me to just get a J-O-B and let someone else worry about where the business is coming from and how to pay the bills. Believe me, it’s crossed my mind more than once, especially in the past year as I have completely changed my business model in order to continue to thrive in the ever-changing world of online marketing.
And yet, I’ve never seriously even given it a second thought. That’s because I have passion. For my business, for my message, and for the people with whom I have the pleasure to interact every single day.
What’s my point? In order to truly succeed at a high level as an entrepreneur, you have to find that same level of passion for your business. If succeeding and helping others succeed isn’t important to you at a very high level (as in, there’s not much you wouldn’t do to accomplish it), you’ll have average results and, statistics show, probably won’t last.
If you look at the success stories from your company or industry, those men and women who are “living the dream,” (taking the incentive trips, earning lots of money), you’ll find, in every single one (I guarantee it), moments of sacrifice and struggle that were moved through and overcome. Every one of them, at some point, hit a wall. And you’ll find that they never quit, no matter how challenging their situations. They were committed.
Interested people dabble. Committed people find a way to turn their passion into action and then results. No matter what it takes.
So what happens to you when you hit a wall? Which are you? Committed or interested?
Oh, by the way, if you are committed, you’ll find a wealth of completely free (no strings attached) information here on my blog, on my website, and in my weekly emails to support you. You can join my online community to take advantage of all of it AND get a free gift below.
